Updated: Jun 22, 2021

Reduced metabolism as we get older is a major factor, particularly in women going through perimenopause and menopause.

Your body does not burn calories the way it did when you were younger, and your metabolism slows down as you age.

If you are still eating like you are 20 but exercising like you’re 80, you need to find the right balance of energy intake and output, along with the best food choices and other important component to help you lose weight.

Skipping meals, the proper way, also called intermittent fasting, can have incredible health benefits, like weight loss. But skipping a meal and intermittent fasting are two quite different things.

Sure, skipping meals can happen from time to time, but doing it consistently can negatively impact your health and lead to nutritional deficiencies. You are also not able to perform at your best because all you can focus on is food.

2. Aim for protein and fiber at each meal

These two nutrients most associated with satiety can help with not only weight loss but can support your digestive system.

3. Eat lots of fruit and vegetables

A diet that includes lots of fruits and vegetables promotes weight loss and over all better health. Most vegetables are low in calories and fat, and high in fiber and various essential micronutrients, which makes them two of the best food options for successful weight loss.

Do strength training, lifting small weights or using resistance bands a couple of days a week is important especially after the age of 50. (Remember not to overdo it, and make sure you stretch before any kind of exercise)

7. Check your sweet habit

Your sugar obsession could be for many other reasons, and you may not know it but you could be deficient in different essential minerals such as magnesium, chromium and zinc, so that’s where increasing your vegetables and fruits that are naturally sweetened and can help with those cravings
