Justifying cheating. Through personal experience with 15 years of "yoyo dieting", I know that trying to lose weight is not an easy task. Not only have I had to adjust my diet completely, but also I continue to push myself to be prepared for the day and stop and take a minute when the urge happens and ask myself "why", everyday. Once your brain starts trying to justify eating junk, it’s hard to resist eating. You should know what your primary triggers for cheating, alot of the time, is emotional or boredom.
Cheating on a diet may not be seen publicly as the worst type of cheating because no one is affected but you. We need to learn to put ourselves, our health, and our bodies first. There’s really nothing to remember other than that you can and will always justify eating off plan. The sooner you understand, accept, and prepare for that fact, the quicker you’ll be able to do something about it. Try this every time you have something you know you shouldn’t have on your plan, write down why you’re cheating. This is not easy or comfortable,it sounds so easy just to jot down one sentence every time you cheat. But... after you’ve written down 10 or 15 reasons, you’ll automatically recognize patterns. When you start to recognize patterns, it will allow you to push aside those justifications more easily and more quickly. Your brain will still try to justify eating "off plan", but another part of your brain (literally) will recognize and often discard those justifications. You will recognize that this is just a temporary justification with which you probably won’t agree tomorrow.
Long term weight loss is about you becoming more aware of your eating habits and recognize that eating is so much more than meeting your nutritional needs. Changing your habits takes time, effort, and a great deal of discipline, but the rewards could last a lifetime.
To make the necessary changes, you have to think differently, dismiss self-defeating thoughts and behaviors, and replace them with positive behaviors that help you gain self-control.
You will start viewing eating well and exercising as a lifelong pursuit; and highs and lows are all part of the journey toward successful weight management.
