For two decades I’ve been coaching women on how to achieve their health and wellness goals through proper nutrition, regular exercise, and a positive mindset. But recently, I’ve taken a step further by educating families about the detrimental effects of toxins in our everyday household items. If you wash your hair, brush your teeth, and do laundry, you need to see this.
The Hidden Toxins in Our Homes
Many of us are unaware of the killer chemicals lurking in our homes, right under our noses. These dangerous toxins can have serious, long-term effects on our health and the health of our loved ones. One of the most concerning groups of chemicals is polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), often referred to as "forever chemicals." These chemicals are found in a variety of household items and personal care products, including:
Cleaning products.
Water-resistant fabrics, such as rain jackets, umbrellas, and tents.
Grease-resistant paper.
Nonstick cookware.
Personal care products, like shampoo, dental floss, nail polish, and eye makeup.
Stain-resistant coatings used on carpets, upholstery, and other fabrics.
PFAS are incredibly persistent in the environment and in our bodies. They do not break down by heat, sunlight, or water, leading to continuous exposure and accumulation over time.
The Impact on Our Health from Household Toxins
Big corporations often fail to disclose the harmful effects of regular household items because it directly impacts their profitability. These products, laden with chemicals and toxins, are cheaper to produce and provide higher margins. Revealing their adverse health impacts—such as shortening lifespans, compromising immune systems, causing cancer, and disrupting hormones—could lead to a loss of consumer trust and massive financial repercussions. The influence of these corporations often extends into regulatory bodies, allowing them to bypass stringent safety checks and continue prioritizing profits over public health. This secrecy and lack of transparency leave consumers unaware of the hidden significant risks associated with everyday products.
The statistics are alarming:
Since 1988 trouble conceiving or carrying to term increased by 49%
Since 1999, ADHD diagnoses have increased by 53%.
Since 2013, life-threatening birth defects have doubled.
Genital deformities in boys have risen by 120%.
Asthma rates have gone up by 80%.
Childhood leukemia cases have increased by 74%.
Every day, 2 billion pounds of toxic chemicals enter our commerce. This means we are continuously exposed to these harmful substances in our daily lives.
Making Informed Choices about Hidden Dangerous Toxins
While there are many things we cannot control, we can make informed choices about what we bring into our homes. By being mindful of the products we use, we can reduce our exposure to these dangerous chemicals and protect our families' health.
